Conya Doss - What We Gon' Do
When I first started this blog, indie soul songstess, Conya Doss was one of my first post (see here). This beautiful sister has been off the seen for the past 2 years, but this should come as no surprise to long time fans as this is routine of Ms. Doss since her debut in 2002. Now she returns with her 5th album, Blu Transition dropping in September. "What We Gon' Do" is the first single from the album, and it's a nice uptempo, funky bass line gem tackling relationships the way Ms. Doss does best. If your new to Conya Doss, I suggest you get to know her. Start here to catch up.

Nadine Charles - Kisses in The Morning (Video)
Reppin' the UK - singer, songwriter Nadine Charles gives us a track from her unnamed forthcoming album. "Kisses in The Morning" has a chill groove laced with Nadines' sweet angelic voice, which one can either lounge to or get up and move to. As for the video... pretty girl with beautiful features, nice sunny day, but what's up with the Reindeer? Oh well, the song still gets my cosign. Get your copy for free here. Black Spade - Build & Destroy
On my ride to check out the Theophilus London show out here in Tampa this past Wednesday, I equipped my ipod with the eclectic vibe of Black Spade's – Build & Destroy Mixtape. 2008's To Serve With Love was in my opinion one of the best albums of that year "serving" souled out hip hop to old and new fans such as myself. With Build & Destroy being his first mixtape ever, he's done exceptionally well showcasing his varied styles, his passion for diversity and uniqueness in his sound and art. Stoney Rock as he is also known will delight the eccentric listener with stories of disdain for the b.s in music and entertainment and the reputations built around it, the strength of life and love and of course, just straight up hard hitting lyrics and beats. Peep the track below then go download the mixtape following.

JD Green - Make It New
Louisville, Kentucky: A new voice in soul music is stirring up. Youthful and rich in tone, JD Green Soul fills your audio space with a sweet classically trained voice that personifies the elements of all things funky, jazzy and soulful. My introduction to JD came via a twitter following sometime last week. I held off for a minute before giving her work a good listen, but today, I am pleased to say my ears have been gently kissed by this graceful singer, poet and musician. Her 16 track debut, Diurnal Movements is a beautiful body of work touching on love, life, fun times and free spiritedness. Peep the gospel infused, soul inspired "Make it New" below. It's just a taste of many great tracks off her album.

80's Babies ft Dee Jackson, Allegra Dolores & Kazi The Blak – Frequency (Video)
Just came across this video today via Facebook. Taken from the 80's Babies album, Sonic Music out now on itunes. Tall Black Guy laces us with a mellow chill mode groove that locks you in from beginning to end. Emcees Dee Jackson and Kazi The Blak add their soothed out lyrics while vocalists Allegra Dolores bring the soulful hook to make this track just right. No glitz, no glamour - just 100% pure organic hip hop. Check another joint from the album below. Thanks Chaka B.

Joonie - So Fly
I've seen this cover before on bandcamp a few months ago, but just never payed much attention to it. However, over the weekend I got an email from someone in the artist's camp regarding his music. Calvin Gary, Jr. aka Joonie is a singer, songwriter, arranger and musician, specializing in Soul, R&B and Popular Music. He has written for and collaborated with Ruben Studdard, Elliot Yamin, Nappy Roots, Angie Stone and Mos Def (unreleased).
Joonie's debut album, Acoustic Love is out now, and minus a few tracks that's more suited toward today's radio playlist is a solid piece of work. Acoustic Love showcases the full reach of Joonie's musicianship which I truly appreciate in an artist. The gentle keys of "Just The Way You Are" make for pleasant listening and "Delilah" will have you swaying from left to right with its mid tempo groove. Check the cut below to start, then continue on to hear more of the album here.

Pharoahe Monch - Shine
One of my favorite emcees has finally released some new music. Fans have been clamoring for a new joint for over a year now from Queens native, Pharoahe Monch. Well, the 1st single from his upcoming 3rd album, “W.A.R.” (We Are Renegades) is here for your listening pleasure. “Shine” features Mela Machinko and was produced by one of the golden era's greatest, Diamond D. The track takes me back to that raw feel of the 90's, and Pharoahe delivers society's insanity and his quest to "Shine" amidst it all through the complex wordplay he's known for. No set date yet on the release of the album, but it will drop this fall on the Duck Down Records.

Jesse Boykins III - Before The Night is Through (Video)
This is my first time covering 25 year old Jesse Boykins III, but he's no newbie to me. I've known about him for about 2 years now, and his music without a doubt goes in. The Beauty Created (2008) was considered an instant classic featuring some of the best futuristic, jazzy soul production and Jesse's melodious toned voice. The featured video below shows a night out at Santos in NYC laced by what could possibly be a cut from JBIII for his third album. B4 The Night is Thru is the name of the vibe. Be prepared to get up and dance as the pulsing bass line takes you in. Check it out. Support JBIII.
Santos "Our Studio 54" NYC
"If you live in NYC and have been out on a Friday Night, you know Santos is where we usually end up. I like to look at it as the modern day Studio 54. Just Blaze on the 1's and 2's, Chad hooking it up with the tickets at the door, People hanging outside starting shit with the bouncers. A melting pot of all NYC'S many faces in one spot." Coultrain -I'll Be Around
To purveyors of good soul music, the name Coultrain shouldn't raise a questionable eye. But for the rest of the world who has yet to catch on to this sensational artist - get ready! We've featured Coultrain several times on the blog (see here), and we're giving him shine again simply because we love his music and we realize that people are still sleeping. His 2008 debut "The Adventures of Seymour Liberty" (now available) introduced a sound reminiscent of the classics. When R&B had soul and not filled with the current crock of pop overload. Here's a gem from 2001 sent to me via his manager. Pay attention to Coultrain's voice - its youthful tone which leads us up to the strength his exhibits nearly a decade later.
