The incredibly gifted Georgia Anne Muldrow returns as Jyoti which is a Sanscrit word meaning “light.” The name was given to her by the late great Alice Coltrane, who was a friend of the family. Under this new alias, Georgia will perform all her future jazz projects. The first of these projects will be Ocotea - drawing from a sea of influences such as Hendrix’s Band of Gypsys, Swamini Truiyasangitanada’s Monastic Trio, Charles Mingus, Eric Dolphy, Herbie Hancock, Chick Corea, Henry Threadgill, Sun-Ra, and Stevie Wonder... the project fuses experimental synthesizers and melodies that soar about with raw musicianship to bring forth the free jazz sound of the album. Ocotea will show Georgia in a whole new light and is sure to become a new-jazz classic. It will be released on limited CD/vinyl on June 15th. Make sure you get your copy!
