Indigenous Soundwaves - Native Sun

First things first, shouts out to my dude, producer, Kensaye Russell for introducing me to this sensational duo. Indigenous Soundwaves consist of thought provoking emcee, Mohammed Yahya and the angelic soul of  singer/songwriter, Sarina Leah. The London based duo joined forces in 2010, melding Hip Hop and African rhythms with the aim of promoting a positive message of Universal Peace, Equality, Social Justice and Environmental Change.

As individuals, I'm familiar with Sarina's voice via her work with producer, Eric Lau and Mohammed's - his Luvolution project as part of Blind Alphabetz. Together the two have assembled an album so soulfully harmonizing - rich in conscious content that perfectly blends Sarina's delightful vocals with a combination of Mohommed's english inflection and his native South East African tongue. "Gallery of Dreams" is my favorite at the moment, but don't sleep on "Senses" produced by Kensaye provided he introduced me. Albums like this I want to have on disc, so I'm going to hold off on the digital 'til then. Take a listen below and please do support.

Kinny - 2546 Nice

Over the past two years, I've become more familiar with the independent UK label, Tru-Thoughts. With names like Natural Self, Wild Cookie, Mark de Clive-Lowe, Bellaruche and a host of others, I can attest to their niche for cultivating a diverse plate of great music. Now in operation for twelve years, they continue their formula of keeping the music first and the business second, which in turn creates a successful label and a place where artists can be themselves. With that said, I introduce to you, Canadian born vocalist, Kinny. A classically trained opera singer, Kinny found her true passion when lured in by the natural and free feeling vibes of jazz, reggae and soul. There's no doubt she made the right decision, cause after hearing her deep soulful voice cruising throughout your eardrums, there's no denying her gift. "2546 Nice" comes from her 09' debut album, Idle Forest of Chit Chat. Groove to the bouncy, bluesy and spacey vibe of Kinny.

Morgan Heritage: True Rootz Music

Spanning an impressive 19 year career, reggae band Morgan Heritage has solidified their place in the continuous sound of rootz reggae & conscious vibes music. With 10 albums released to date (11th currently in the works), 5 of singer Denroy Heritage's 30 offspring have taken reggae music to the masses, achieving critically acclaimed status. Performing since their youth, Morgan Heritage - consisting of Gramps, Mr. Mojo, Una, Lukes and Jahpetes claimed my fan-ship back in 01' with their classic tune "Down By The River." The sweetness of the riddim and redemptive spiritual message caught my attention immediately, ultimately leading me to buy the worthy More Teachings album. Since then, I've been in and out of the loop with the group, but while considering my next post, they crossed my mind. Check out the video from 08's Mission In Progresspeep the exquisite "Your Best Friend" from Full Circle (2005), and keep your eye out for future group works. Solo projects by Gramps and Mr. Mojo available now, and Una soon come. Support positive music. Respect!

Fi Di Black Queens Dem

My "Yard" family may want to "box me down" for my lack of knowledge on Reggae music. It's not that I'm not a fan. Being the progeny of Jamaican parentage, how could I not be. But I was born in Brooklyn, N.Y, early 70's, and at a very young age (around 9-10) hip-hop took control of my life. Still, reggae music is a part of my culture, and I honestly have to include more of it in my musical rotation. So with that said, I've included the video of a nice tune (She's Royal) I heard for the first time last Saturday, from Jamaican "singa", Tarrus Riley, from his 2006 sophomore cd Parables. Thanks to my sister-in-law, Sandra for putting me on to this one. Support the artist and conscious vibes music.
