Malice & Mario Sweet - Happy 2 Year EP

Get ready to take a private journey aboard a music fueled spaceship to a place with no borders, rules, or sorrows. Malice and Mario Sweet have chartered a direct flight to a musical celebration for the open-minded lover in all of us.

It was just last month that I was introduce to husband & wife duo, Malice & Mario Sweet. Their infectious single "Speed of Light" had me jammin' in my seat as I listened. With hashtags of Happy2Year following their tweets, I eagerly awaited to hear more from them. Today Happy2Year# has arrived. This 7 song ep draws much inspiration from the late 70's funk vibe well into the 80's sound of soul music. Malice and Mario so easily express everyday feelings throughout the project all while the production keeps your soul in good spirits. Featuring production from Jus D' amato, Vitamin D, Roy Ayers, Tall Black Guy and others. Also, Portland native, Choklate checks in with a lyrical dart that hits lovely. Happy2Year is free download, so don't waste a second more. Happy Valentines from Malice & Mario Sweet!

Kindred The Family Soul - You Got Love ft Snoop Dogg

Kindred The Family Soul is one group that should be much bigger than they actually are. The dynamic husband and wife duo of Fatin & Aja have been a blessing to my ears ever since their debut Surrender To Love (2003) hit my car cd player. After 1 listen, I had no doubts the two would be around for many years to come. Following the release of 3 fantastic albums, the couple return with their first single "You Got Love" from their forthcoming album The Great Recession. I love the vintage yet modern soul sound they deliver on this gem, and Snoop Dogg adds to the flavor with a laid back verse perfectly fitting for the song. Give it a listen, then go and support.

Tokyo Dawn Records Presents: Amalia - Art Slave

Tokyo Dawn's first lady Amalia will be dropping her debut album Art Slave on March 4, 2011. The project is a kaleidoscope of future sounds that combines producer Opolopo's eclectic style with the soulful tones of Amalia's driven vocals.  One can gather from various tracks that the late 80s, early 90s New Jack Swing and Boogie vibes were the main influences for this project. Peep the featured gem below and make sure to pick up your copy of Art Slave on March 4th.

Jinx - U ft. Monica Delgado

The south may be known for the dirty and cruck sound, but there are natives that don't get into it. Miami bred now Tampa resident, producer/emcee Jinx is one who doesn't. Aside from knowing dude personally, I truley appreciate his style which is very remeniscent of many from the Golden era. Conscious rhymes, lyrics and dope beats is Jinx's M.O. With "U," this high energy joint forces you to do just what the hook calls you to do "Lose It." The first time I heard it was last Saturday when he and Monica performed it live @ Crowbar. When the beat dropped, I couldn't resist a strong head nod. I'd been holding on to his mixtape, The Pursuit of... (Which "U" doens't appear) for a min now and finally got around to it this past week. Comprised of 18 joints ft. production from Jinx, Funkghost and Mike Mass and apperances by Dynasty, Ms Bronx and Ron Marks, it's a well composed album worthy of your listening pleasure.

Homebase NYC - Sleep ft Coco (Video Teaser)

This is only a teaser, but a great one of what's to come next Wednesday, 2-9-11 courtesy of Homebase. Featuring the divine vocals of Coco from Danish group, Quadron, "Sleep" follows the soulful downtempo groove of Amel Larrieux, which I love, yet it still captures its own vibe and authenticity. I'm going on record to say, this will be amongst my top ten for the year. "Sleep" drops Monday here.

U.City - Heartbreaker rmx ft. (Eric Roberson & Jesse Boykins III)

On Monday, I received an email from a group named U.City wanting to share a track w/me and 17 others via soundcloud. I hadn't heard of U.City, but the features on the track piqued my interest. So I clicked on the link then pressed play on the cloud and a sweet dub type track crept into my ear. The bassline and melody is very reggae inspired - I'd even go as far as saying the overall vibe reminds me of a Morgan Heritage track. That's a good look! Needless to say, I had heard of the group before under their previous moniker United Soul. The Nicolay remix of "Soul Clap" was my first taste of the group. Heartbreaker comes via their 09 release The Fall
