Columbia Nights - Stormy Weather

Earlier today, I held a very heavy heart due to the unjust murder of Troy Davis. I wasn't going to post anything because of this, but an email of a new twitter follow changed my mind. @Columbia_Nights is now following you (@mysoullessons). Consisting of co-producers and former bandmates John E Daise and Hayling Price (Philly) along with vocalist Sarai Abdul-Malik (D.C), Columbia Nights came together over their love for vinyl, laughter and Thai iced tea.

Completely new to me, which is always great, their cover of Little Dragon's - Stormy Weather is an equally blissful and serene rendition of the original. With Sarai's voice able to stand on it's own in comparison to LD's, Yukimi Nagano, she sounds so welcoming over the electro-souled out production of John and Hayling.

Based in Washington, D.C, the trio has taken almost two years, studying and perfecting their craft to prepare the world for their forthcoming debut. I for sure will be checking for them! Make sure you get on board too. Young black souls sharing their gift of music is always a beautiful thing, and being friends at that only makes it more genuine. Ishe & Hezekiah Project: Album Snippets

The long awaited Ishe & Hezekiah Project presents roughly 10 minutes of snippets from the forthcoming album. With less than 3 weeks away from its release, June 1, my anxiety has slightly been put to ease after hearing this preview. As mentioned in my previous post about the soulful duo, "Can We" & "Paradise" are gems to listen out for, but "So Official" & "Pressure" are sure to capture your ear and move your soul. Ishe & Hezekiah Project: 2nd Album Promo (Video)

Had a quick chat last night via FB with Philly based emcee/producer, Hezekiah about his forthcoming project with Cali songstress/lyricist, ISHE. Aptly titled The Ishe & Hezekiah Project - it is scheduled for release on June 1st. Dating back to over a year, the project which started as a 3 song EP changed plans after witnessing the great chemistry between the talented duo. After viewing all of the videos in support of the project, in addition to hearing the first single, "Stand Guard," I can assure you this project will be one to savor and get plenty of spins in the Ody and at the house. Kindred The Family Soul - You Got Love ft Snoop Dogg

Kindred The Family Soul is one group that should be much bigger than they actually are. The dynamic husband and wife duo of Fatin & Aja have been a blessing to my ears ever since their debut Surrender To Love (2003) hit my car cd player. After 1 listen, I had no doubts the two would be around for many years to come. Following the release of 3 fantastic albums, the couple return with their first single "You Got Love" from their forthcoming album The Great Recession. I love the vintage yet modern soul sound they deliver on this gem, and Snoop Dogg adds to the flavor with a laid back verse perfectly fitting for the song. Give it a listen, then go and support.

U.City - Heartbreaker rmx ft. (Eric Roberson & Jesse Boykins III)

On Monday, I received an email from a group named U.City wanting to share a track w/me and 17 others via soundcloud. I hadn't heard of U.City, but the features on the track piqued my interest. So I clicked on the link then pressed play on the cloud and a sweet dub type track crept into my ear. The bassline and melody is very reggae inspired - I'd even go as far as saying the overall vibe reminds me of a Morgan Heritage track. That's a good look! Needless to say, I had heard of the group before under their previous moniker United Soul. The Nicolay remix of "Soul Clap" was my first taste of the group. Heartbreaker comes via their 09 release The Fall.

I'm a fan of the Philly based crew WrittenHouse. I've featured one of their joints, "Time's Tickin'" on episode 9 of WSLE Soundscape Radio. The above video is their debut from their forthcoming album, While You Were Sleeping. From all what I've heard thus far from the group and knowing their setbacks with having their studio robbed, the album is gonna prove how they've overcome adversity.
