This has been out for a few months now, but Mr. Duplaix let it go on his twitter page for the fans who don't have it and the newcomers who need to have it. Electric Love is a vibe so sexy, you can't resist the desire to snatch up your lady or man and dance the track away, or maybe you'll feel like doing something else. LOL! DL the track via his website. It'll be gone after this month, so hurry! Continue to support good music.
I thought we'd have to wait till next year before we heard the first single from Sade's forthcoming album Soldier Of Love. Listen closely as the rushing wind followed by a peaceful horn sets the pace. Authentic solider themed drum patterns kick in, then Mrs. Adu's sultry vocals enters to bring this strong piece of work to the moment we've all been waiting for. She hasn't missed a step. Peep @ the 5:08 mark for a No Ordinary Love familiarity. Enjoy.
No matter on time or late, a good find is always rewarding. Thank God for the internet! Hailing from Hovedstaden, Denmark - vocalist Coco M.H. Karshoj and musician/producer Robin Hannibal form Quadron. Their aim: to place a new spin on the Danish soul scene and create an alternative to the R&B of the U.S. I sampled their songs on itunes while writing this post, and was most impressed with the results of my 6 minute listen. A lot of soul, ambient, electronic, funk and early popular music. I'm feeling it! For starters check the deep, moody flow of "Horse" down below. Support good music. Available on itunes now. Spotted over at FWMJ
Zone4/Interscope recording artist, Jared Evan hits hard with this banger. Produced by the 21 year old, New York native, he spits three short tales over solid drums, synth stabs and just the right amount of auto-tune to keep my head nodding. His mixtape, Radio In My Head is available for free download here. I'm on the fence about it, but you be your own judge.
The Brooklyn/Bronx connection of hip-hop vets, OC & AG take the music back to its essence with boom-bap tracks and true lyricism on their long awaited debut, Oasis. The classic "Young With Style" has the D.I.T.C (Diggin' In The Crates) legends gettin' busy, spittin' lyrical finesse & metaphors that instantly generate a "yo, you heard what he said" response over the slow knock by producers Show and KC. This joint takes me back to 97' with this cut from O's sophomore album, Jewelz. Oasis in stores now!
I believe, New York native, Outasight is about to drop a classic on Dec 15th! Coming with a mode different from his peers in the game, this dude turns loose on the ill, 6th Sense produced, "Catch Me If You Can." Showcasing his unorthodox style of singing and emceeing over the smooth, bottom heavy beat - Outasight coolly let's his rock star flow letting cats know he doesn't have time to waste. Make sure to check for his debut, Further next week Tuesday (12/15).
The organic feel of "Natural" is just one of many jewels from the arsenal of the higly underrated, yet superbly artistic, Yahzarah. Over a mild, jazzy melody, the D.C. native flows a sensuous thought about a man in her life who seemingly captivates her and leaves her in a mental trance. Then again, I get the feeling she's talking about music and how it obsesses her existence. Whatever the case, it's sweet soul music to the ears. Keep an eye out for the highly anticipated The Ballad Of Miss. Purple St. James.
I love this joint right here! Jamaica Queens representatives, NickyGuiland & Casey Benjamin - A.K.A HEAVy, lay down an intimate groove detailing the better days of a relationship now destined for "Change." The snazzy production by Casey, arranges the perfect scene for Nicky's impassioned outcry. The combination makes for a winning track from start to finish. As a matter of fact, the whole album is a gem. Get it here.
Comprised of members, Nuschool, Korus and Lejin - Tha Boogie is next up to rise from the underground music scene. Proteges of singer/songwriter/producer Raphael Saadiq, Tha Boogie is unafraid to take risk in order to create their abysmal & experimental sound. Hailing from Rancho Cucamonga, Ca - the three members (all in their early 20's) each bring an element of style and taste to the groups overall production. Energetic, soulful & eccentric - definitely not for everybody! Their EP is out now on itunes. Check the cut below and the video beneath it for a glimpse of their onstage performance. Try something new, and support the artists. Props to herfection for the discovery and eleetmusic for the track.
My discovery of Shayna Steele came on the cusp of a family outing last Sunday. We were muddling through directions for this new spot to take the kids. It was her conscious... fist in the air declaration blasting from hubby's speakers that snagged my attention and made my baby fro tingle! Conjuring up visions of past 4 am ciphers, open mics and lyrical niceness, I'll Be Anything exhibits Shayna's skillfulness as a vocalist who will not be defined by just one sound. Released this past November, the album joins light rock, jazz, disco and funky soul to create a musical fusion. Shayna, with an effortless ease combines climatic notes over electric guitars and multi-layered sultry verses which set the backdrop for her life story.
Born to a black father and a white mother in Sacramento, Shayna grew up an Air Force brat. Her younger years living overseas never prepared her for the racial backlash she would experience once her family settled in Biloxi, MS. Finding refuge and freedom in music, a passionate pursuit is what eventually led her to NYC. With a 12 year span of successes ranging from starring on Broadway, TV appearances and being a vocalist in demand, it took crossing paths with industry veteran, pianist and composer David Cook to make the magic happen in the studio. Their collaborative effort of writing, recoding and producing materialized into I'll Be Anything. Check out two of my favorites off the album, 4AM Song and What We Are Giving. Support true artist and pass it on.
