Hawthorne Headhunters - Myriad of Now EP

Groups breakup! It's just something that happens. Sometimes the answer is obvious (friction), while other times it's just simple differences that don't even matter. Well, St. Louis natives Black Spade and Coultrain, the two remaining members of Hawthorne Headhunters have no beef whatsoever with former members, MC Adad, I -Ced & Pro Mic. The desire to go solo was just imperative for the former three. Good for them. MC Adad is currently working on his solo while both I-Ced and Pro Mic have release dope debuts. Now Hawthorne Headhunters follow up and carry the name strong with their Myriad of Now Ep. This is just a glimpse of what's to come from the full length 14 track album due out next year. A combination of Electro, Funk, Jazz, and Soul music fused with free spirited lyrics. I'm a fan of both artists, so when I pressed play, I allowed the music to do what it do: ENGAGE!

Myriad of Now released last month, and I've had this since the 24th of then, but for those who are still sleeping or just not at all aware, peep two gems from the EP below. Groups like Hawthorne Headhunters in my opinion deserve to be a household name, but I do understand, some things are just not for everyone. But for those that feel their eclecticism, support them on itunes and stay tuned for more.

Proh Mic - Hit The Floor ft. Coultrain & Uncle Imani

Here comes another worthy artist from the All Natural camp! Producer, songwriter and emcee, Proh Mic, one third of The Hawthorne Headhunters is readying fans for his upcoming release, Rhythm For Days (10-25-11) with an electro funk-styled dance track titled Hit The Floor. A head bobber and body mover for sure, there's no denying it grabs your attention once the needle drops or mp3 plays.

Added to enrich the track even more is the soulful gritty vocals of my dude Coultrain and Cali emcee, Uncle Imani from The Pharcyde. Rhythm for Days is expected to be more dance orientated (not that corny watered down techno crap) unlike his past works which display various soul, hip hop, jazz and eclectic styles of music. As an entity of his own, I just got hip to him last year, so I can't speak heavily on him. However, as long as he continues to craft dope music like this and that which I've come to know, I'm a fan for life.

Coultrain - While She Was Sleeping

Last week when this project dropped, it was capped at 100 downloads. Well, fortunately for those who missed like myself, Coultrain put it up himself to allow for more, new and old to get aquainted or reaquainted with his music. If you're a true fan of Coultrain, then this will serve as a refresher to what you already know. But if you're new, then you're in for a musical blessing. DJ Limelight puts together a short but nice collection of Coultrain's work from features with Hawthore Headhunters, Daru Jones, his debut "The Adventures of Seymour Liberty" and joints from his most recent work, "GodMustBeABoogieman." I encourage all new ears to behold this man. He is without a doubt, one to watch for years to come. Press play and let the adventure begin.

Black Spade - Build & Destroy

On my ride to check out the Theophilus London show out here in Tampa this past Wednesday, I equipped my ipod with the eclectic vibe of Black Spade'sBuild & Destroy Mixtape. 2008's To Serve With Love was in my opinion one of the best albums of that year "serving" souled out hip hop to old and new fans such as myself. With Build & Destroy being his first mixtape ever, he's done exceptionally well showcasing his varied styles, his passion for diversity and uniqueness in his sound and art. Stoney Rock as he is also known will delight the eccentric listener with stories of disdain for the b.s in music and entertainment and the reputations built around it, the strength of life and love and of course, just straight up hard hitting lyrics and beats. Peep the track below then go download the mixtape following.

Coultrain -I'll Be Around

To purveyors of good soul music, the name Coultrain shouldn't raise a questionable eye. But for the rest of the world who has yet to catch on to this sensational artist - get ready! We've featured Coultrain several times on the blog (see here), and we're giving him shine again simply because we love his music and we realize that people are still sleeping. His 2008 debut "The Adventures of Seymour Liberty" (now available) introduced a sound reminiscent of the classics. When R&B had soul and not filled with the current crock of pop overload. Here's a gem from 2001 sent to me via his manager. Pay attention to Coultrain's voice - its youthful tone which leads us up to the strength his exhibits nearly a decade later.
